Handwriting

Despite the ever increasing use of technology in our lives, the development of handwriting remains of paramount importance in education. Public examinations are still largely hand-written, time-limited tasks and at the end of Key Stage 2 children's written work is currently assessed for the quality of their handwriting.   The ability to use a fluent, cursive, legible handwriting style, produced with increasing speed and an individual style is the aim for all children by the end of Year 6.

Pre-School

The foundations for a good pencil grip begin early in life as regular "tummy time" and exercise as a baby and toddler leads to a child developing the core strength required to sit on a chair with the correct posture for writing.
